GOOD is a member-based workshop studio for writers + artists of all kinds who want to do good work + live good lives. We include ourselves in that, which means that GOOD is also a peer-to-peer space.

At its heart, GOOD is  designed to encourage each of us to have an honest relationship with our creative practices and to reduce the barriers that might get in the way of our success, so we also think of it as a brave and kind space.

We've created a non-competitive and snobbery-free zone and we thrive on a spirit of generosity, as well as shared intellect and energy.

We honour that you have a big, full life and that you’re making an investment when you come to GOOD. That’s why we’ve made a space that's as lovely and nurturing as possible.

GOOD is also a calm and cheerful place to break bread (there is always tea and treats) and enjoy the company and conversation of others.

You can come as you are to GOOD and we hope that you'll always leave feeling somehow better off.

This is us, Jill Margo  + Andrew Templeton. We founded GOOD together, but we're also partner-partners, not just business partners. And we're both writers.

Jill writes mostly creative nonfiction these days, though the last thing she had published was a short story in The Walrus.  She's been shortlisted for a Western Magazine Award and The Malahat Review's Long Poem Prize, and long-listed for CBC Canada Writes Creative Nonfiction Prize. She's also one of the contributors for the New York Times bestseller, Women In Clothes.  She has over ten years of experience in literary admin, including as curator and  host of two renowned reading series, and as the executive director of the Victoria School of Writing.

Andrew calls himself a "recovering playwright" because he's moved on to screenwriting and science fiction after years in theatre. He's had eleven plays and one musical produced in the UK, Vancouver, and Toronto and has been twice-nominated for the Jessie Richardson Award for Outstanding Original Script. His short screenplay was one of the winners of Crazy 8's in 2011. He's also written about the performing arts for The Canadian Theatre Review; The Vancouver Courier; and Plank Magazine.

GOOD is located at storefront-level, but tucked away down a tree-lined courtyard on the edge of the Chinatown District in Victoria, BC.

Picture a studio like a private coffee shop (we even make a nice Americano) with a  warm rustic-industrial feel.

Everything at GOOD centres around a big rustic table that we built ourselves (and can be magically turned into four tables for different configurations if need be).

Fun fact: GOOD is a live/work space. Most people don't usually realize that we live here. It's like we're the shopkeepers above the shop, only our private rooms are above and below the main studio.

All our programs and events are catered, which means it's very likely that cake will be involved because, well, cake.

We make a conscious effort to combine modest indulgences (the aforementioned cake) with fresh, natural ingredients that are delicious and nourishing.

We can accommodate most special dietary needs, excluding serious allergies.

Have questions about GOOD that you can't find answers to here? Please feel free to contact us. We'll be happy to hear from you.
